Description:
Hanukkah is an ancient holiday commemorating the victory of the Jewish people from the tyranny of a Greek king named Antiochus Epiphanes. God granted a miraculous victory, after which the temple was cleansed and dedicated. It was originally referred to as "hanukkat hamizbe’ach" - the dedication of the alter. At the time of Jesus it was referred to simply as "the Feast of Dedication." Jesus actually celebrated this holiday, and we read about it in John 10:22-30. This message explores the meaning of Hanukkah for followers of Jesus - for it was during this holiday that he made some very significant statements regarding his own identity, the identity of those who follow him, and about the true meaning of dedication.
